Love this analogy, Karen. Very useful and lighthearted way for viewing working structure. Iā€™m a riff-off-the-recipe type too, so this feels just right!

I like this very much and thank you for the link as well - really super article.

Since I also enjoy cooking this resonates with me.

I would add that the first time that I make a new recipe, I pay a lot of attention to what works, what doesn't and make sure to record my thoughts in the margin. I consider this first time to be an experiment of sorts, so I don't judge myself too harshly. (How often do recipe writers blatantly lie? For example, all those sheet pan recipes that insist you can add sliced onions at the same time as say, potatoes and *really* expect they won't burn ...??) Anyway, I digress. By applying this to the writing process, I agree - the most important part IS bottom in chair and simply presenting oneself.

When we actually make the time, it can be pretty amazing what comes out of that pen/keyboard/springform pan!
